Car dealerships see their electric car sales jump

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – With gas prices now above $5 a gallon, people are looking for other options.

“Electric cars, you don’t put gas at all, you wait for a charger or you charge it at home,” said Kody Slaght, sales associate at Kia of Lansing.

Electric cars are on the rise at dealerships like Kia of Lansing. They say it’s been 6 months since they had an unsold electric car on the lot.

“People are coming in, dropping off deposits and waiting for their vehicle,” Slaght said.

This expectation could become the regular news.

“I don’t think the manufacturers are going to pack the lots anymore,” Slaght said.

Most typical electric vehicles are priced around $35,000 to $45,000, and installing a home charger can cost around $800.

So they might not be for everyone, at least not yet. But as more products are produced, those prices are expected to come down.

“I think the most important thing is to get everything in order and get everyone on the same page at this point. And I think all the manufacturers are going to be on that road, it’s just going to take time. time,” Slaght said.

Dealers say people should take their time deciding if an electric car is right for them.

“Do a lot of research online. Figure out what your daily habits are and if it makes sense to you,” Slaght said.
