A charity that delivers blood products, emergency samples and medicine to Hampshire and neighboring counties has received a boost thanks to Hendy’s Group in Eastleigh who provided SERV Wessex -The Blood Runners with a car for their work vital.
The Kia Niro has been donated for two years and will help the charity in its work across the region which sees SERV Wessex operating an out of hours service during the week and 24 hour at weekends and public holidays 365 days of the year.
Volunteers transport a wide range of supplies to hospitals and patients, and it also replenishes blood and plasma transported by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The majority of the mileage driven is done by our volunteers using their own vehicles and paying all of their own expenses. We have a small fleet of branded bikes and cars, which volunteers can use to help defray costs,” said Robert Smith, chairman of SERV Wessex. “Your car will be crucial in enabling us to continue to provide our service to the NHS and the community and also to help support our volunteers, all the more so with rising fuel costs and the cost of living.
The Kia Niro supplied by Hendy will be used across the region and Hendy Commercial Director Mark Busby said charities such as SERV Wessex perform a vital function in the community.
So many people benefit from the work of this amazing charity and we hope that by providing the Kia Niro for the next two years, volunteers can continue their work which supports the work of the NHS.
