Local business expands into former Burton car dealership
But there are signs that some businesses in central Michigan are seeing a comeback.
BURTON, Mich. (WJRT) – Due to labor shortages, supply chain issues and inflation, it’s been a tough year for many small businesses.
A former Saab dealership on Center Rd. in Burton has a new occupant.
The owner of Timothy’s Tractors told ABC12 News he’s been watching the old auto shop for several years.
“I was looking for a building in the neighborhood. I wanted to stay close to the community. Stay in the area that fed me well,” said Tim Wagner, owner of Timothy’s Tractors.
Although there are no vehicles in the showroom, there will be other types of machines.
The demand for new and used lawn mowers as well as snow blowers has increased.
“So our new showcase here allows us to have more display inside the new equipment. We have more room for the sales area. We have a better parts department,” added Wagner.
And that demand trickled down to the repair and parts side of the business – which is why Wagner wanted more space.
The space has doubled which will allow for more inventory for home and lawn care and more items on the commercial side.
A bottleneck – getting new equipment as well as parts due to supply chain issues.
Despite these challenges, Wagner forges ahead.
“We are going to remove all old Saab panels. There will be no more cars here. It will be all mowers. We have new flooring on the books for here. And of course we also have new signage in the plans. We will go back up, redo the parking lot,” Wagner said.
As expansion plans continue, the goal is to hire another salesperson and several technicians later this year.
