Dafen-based Llanelli Motor Company has inaugurated a job-creating development that will double the size of its forecourt.
Led by chief executive Ian Jonathan, the two-phase project will mean the independent car dealership will increase the number of used vehicles it has on sale to more than 400 by January 2023.
“It’s certainly an exciting time for the company,” Jonathan said.
“And with the significant changes in the used car market, we felt it was the right time to start the project, which has been underway for over five years.”
Although the company was potentially looking at 2020 as the start date for developments, the coronavirus pandemic put the project on hold.
However, since the easing of lockdown restrictions and the delay in getting new vehicles, the used car market has seen an unprecedented surge in demand.
“The last 12 months have been exceptionally busy,” added Jonathan.
“As soon as we have finalized our 140-point security check on vehicles before placing them on the forecourt, they are purchased within days.”
To facilitate its planned growth, Llanelli Motor Company will enter a recruitment phase and will seek to employ at least ten new staff in its sales, workshop and administration teams, as well as accepting new apprentices.
